The director for Thor: Love and Thunder, Taika Waititi, explained why the director had to show Chris Hemsworth’s bare butt on the big screen.

While making an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Taika Waititi was questioned about a significantly memorable moment from the Love and Thunder trailers, in which the God of Thunder is seen bare from behind.

“You get the full Hems-worth,” Waititi said, giving a promise to the audiences that “In the movie, it’s not pixilated.”

When Colbert pointed out that Waititi had also included the bare buttocks of The Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok, the MCU director defended his decision.

“Some will say it’s an obsession. I will say it’s art.” He added, “I tell you what though, I mean, with Chris, he’s worked so hard on that. You know it’s, it’s so many squats.”

The forthcoming movie sees the MCU star reprising the role of Thor with veteran franchise star Natalie Portman returning as Jane Foster, who will also wield the Mighty Mjolnir alongside all of its electrifying power.

Thor: Love and Thunder will also see the debut of the Greek pantheon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, played by Russell Crowe’s Zeus. These gods will go off against the formidable Gorr the God Butcher, played by none other than Christian Bale, who will also be making his live-action debut in the film and Marvel Universe.

Previously, Marvel Studios Boss Kevin Feige had commented on the high hopes he has for Chris Hemsworth continuing his stint as the Odinson in the future MCU movies as well.

“I know this: there are many, many other Thor stories in the comics that we talk about a lot,” Feige said. “And as we watch Chris Hemsworth continue to grow and evolve as a major acting talent, I would be excited to see how he keeps evolving this complex character.”

Not just Feige, even Hemsworth has discussed the longevity of his role which began in 2011. The actor revealed,”Each time, if the opportunity comes up and presents itself [to play Thor], I’m just open to whatever creative exploration can happen, thanks to different writers and directors and so on. But I love playing the character, I really do.”

Hemsworth then explained that he has one reuirement for returning as the God of Thunder is that the stories have to be exciting and fresh, even noting that he doesn’t plan on staying on the role if it becomes repetitive.

Thor: Love and Thunder will hit the theaters on July 8.
