Miles Teller Talks About Playing The Character Of Andrew In Whiplash

During an interview with the media outlet Glamour in 2015, Miles Teller was asked about his character Andrew in his breakthrough project Whiplash. He was asked whether he liked his performance in the critically acclaimed movie or not, to which he responded as-

” Well, you’re right, it is very hard for an actor to watch themselves. Especially when you first see the film. You’re not even seeing the film, you’re watching yourself and you’re like, “Oh, that’s what my hair looks like?” or “Why am I making that face?” But what I am proud of is that I try to act without any vanity. I don’t want to be an actor that’s aware of himself because I think then you’re not serving the story. I think that Damien [Chazelle] wrote an incredible script and did an amazing job translating it into a film.”

He further explained-

“I’m happy with that. But absolutely, in every movie you’re trying to do something that you didn’t accomplish in the last one. I was talking to Robert Duvall the other night, and he’s still excited about films and the films he wants to make it. It’s never-ending. I don’t think you ever finish a film and think, “That’s the best I’m ever going to be. I’m good.” I think you’re constantly trying to get there.”

The critically acclaimed movie went on to make $49 million against a budget of $3.3 million. With an IMDb rating of 8.5, Whiplash is currently available on Netflix for streaming.
