Vin Diesel’s Fast X Suffers Catastrophic 65% Drop on Dometic Weekend, May Not Beat Keanu Reeves’ John Wick 4 as 4th Highest Grossing Movie of 2023
The tenth installment of the street racing franchise Fast X recently marked its release on May 19, 2023. It created hype among the audience with its promotions. But within a week of its release, the big-budget movie seemed to fail to meet the expectations of the audience. The much-anticipated movie in the Fast & Furious franchise saw a drop of 65% at the box office.
Currently, the film is running way behind in the box office race. The movie, which was expected to create a blast, seems to slow its speed as Keanu Reeves’s movie, John Wick 4, seems to surpass Vin Diesel’s film. Amidst all the major hits of this year, John Wick 4 remains the 4th highest-grossing movie of 2023.
Will Fast X be able to make it to the list of the highest-grossing movies of the year?
The Fast & Furious franchise movies are renowned for doing huge business overseas. Recently, the Vin Diesel-starring film Fast X got released. The film has received mixed reactions from critics.
If it wasn't for the movie's huge budget, it would already be close to the breakeven point.

The movie grossed $318 million worldwide and became the 7th highest-grossing movie of 2023. Yet the film is still behind Keanu Reeves’ John Wick 4. Reeves’ film was released earlier this year, on May 24, 2023. Whereas John Wick 4 grossed $349.7 million at the box office, becoming the 4th highest-grossing movie of 2023.

However, Fast X has certainly left behind the previous film in the franchise. The film started well at the box office but couldn’t maintain consistency. Fast and Furious franchise movies are high-budget films, and the 10th installment had a budget of over 340 million dollars. According to a news outlet, to earn the money back to offset the cost of production, the film will need to earn at least 2.5 times the budget to make a profit.

What is Keanu Reeves association with the Fast & Furious franchise?
Action star Keanu Reeves is renowned as the face of the John Wick film series. Seeing him play in a different genre would always be a treat for his fans’ eyes. However, according to Fast X star Alan Ritchson, it could have been possible to witness Reeves as a part of the Fast & Furious franchise.
The 58-year-old actor was supposed to appear in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbes & Shaw as the mysterious Eteon Director. Ritchson revealed that Reeves was chosen to play his part in the movie. He said,
“It was just a little stroke of luck and good timing. I was working on a movie with Hilary Swank up in Winnipeg in the freezing cold, and I got a call that things had shifted in the plans with Keanu Reeves, which is I think who was originally intended to play my part. Tough act to follow.”
Unfortunately, some changes in the plans prevented Reeves from starring in the film.
