Whoopi Goldberg Is Sad After Ex President Donald Trump Pleads Not Guilty to 34 Felony Counts
Whoopi Goldberg has got quite a knack for inconsiderately making offensive even blasphemous statements on air without an ounce of worry. The View host has been a constant subject of headlines because of innumerable instances where she has said the wrong thing most casually. This time around, The Sister Act star is getting flak for expressing empathy towards former US President Donald Trump. The 76-year-old is facing a criminal case for falsifying business records and he might be looking at some serious trouble this time.
Whoopi Goldberg tries and fails at defending Donald Trump on The View
A few hours before Donald Trump’s arraignment in Manhattan, he was the subject of a somewhat heated discussion on The View. Trump had pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. While talking about the former POTUS, Whoopi Goldberg asked her co-hosts,
“How are you feeling about a historic day? You know, it’s sad, but I’m glad something’s happening.”
However, the statement didn’t sit right with several on the panel and Joy Behar instantly spurted out, “It’s not sad. What’s sad?”
The Till actress explained her thought, saying: “Well, I’m sad that, in that [it is] an American president.”
Behar, 80, stood her ground and exclaimed,
“But the fact that he’s being called in for questioning etcetera, and he’s being indicted because he’s committed certain crimes is not sad, that’s American justice.”
The Color Purple actor then said,
“It’s the first time in any of our lifetimes, and I don’t think any of us could have ever really imagined this.”
Another co-host, Sunny Hostin, 54, immediately replied, “I imagined it.”
Goldberg then again tried rationalizing her statement as she said, “With him, no … with other presidents.”
The entire conversation seemingly had a passive-aggressive vibe to it, and some fans even commented on how it felt like watching a disruptive family dinner unravel.
Whoopi Goldberg recently said a racial slur on Live TV
This is not a standalone incident for Goldberg who often finds herself at opposite ends from her co-hosts. One of the former hosts of The View, Rosie O’Donnell had written a memoir about her time on the show and what went down behind the scenes, and she claimed that working with the Ghost actor gave her mental trauma, and that she was the meanest person O’Donnell had ever met.
Most recently, Goldberg became a subject of scrutiny when she used a racial slur on the Daytime talk show while discussing Trump (again). She alluded to “people who still believe that he got gy—d somehow in the election.” “Gypsy” is a word generally used to describe the Romani people and this particular term is considered condescendingly synonymous with being defrauded, swindled, and cheated.
Goldberg did apologize for her statement but to little avail.
