Tom Cruise Misses King Charles’ Coronation to Mingle With Recently Single Shakira at Miami F1 Grand Prix
The historic Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla took place in Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6. It was the U.K.’s first coronation in 70 years — a cause even Hugh Jackman, Tom Cruise, and Pierce Brosnan had to celebrate. A star-studded lineup for King Charles III’s Coronation Concert took to an enormous stage on Windsor Castle grounds, the historic building a shimmering backdrop for a crowd of 20,000 on Sunday night.
Tom Cruise Surprises King Charles At Coronation Concert
Tom Cruise chose to spend the day at the races in Miami instead of going to London to see King Charles III’s coronation, despite reports to the contrary. The 60-year-old actor was seen interacting with a star-studded audience at the Formula 1 Grand Prix, which also included Shakira, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, and LL Cool J. At the Miami International Autodrome, where Max Verstappen of Red Bull concluded the race in the first place, he spent the day strolling the starting grid.
But Cruise made sure to send King Charles III a unique video greeting that was played during the coronation concert despite missing the royal occasion.
Cruise’s appearance was unquestionably a showstopper for newly minted King Charles, 74, and Queen Camilla, 75, during the event, which was attended by 20,000 people.
“Pilot-to-pilot, Your Majesty, you can be my wingman any time,” Cruise said, filmed doing what he does best — aviators on and in the cockpit of a fighter pilot jet in a sequence that was perfectly Maverick-esque.

Obtaining a private showing of Top Gun: Maverick after knowing the Prince of Wales was a fan of the original 1986 movie that inspired the blockbuster sequel, Cruise also developed a friendship with Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton.
Tom Cruise’s Relationship With The Royal Family
Cruise has previously participated in a royal occasion. Along with his then-wife Nicole Kidman, he attended the funeral of King Charles’s first wife, Princess of Wales, Diana in 1997.
Additionally, Princess Catherine and Prince William attended the London premiere of Top Gun: Maverick the year before, when Cruise broke royal decorum by leading Catherine by the hand up the steps and into the theater. After meeting the late Prince Consort at a 2017 event at the Outward Bound Trust, Cruise later made friends with the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip. They even shared a passion for flying.
In addition, the Mission Impossible star introduced the Kings Troop Royal Artillery in “A Gallop Through History” at the Royal Windsor Horse Show and participated in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
“We have a lot in common,” said Cruise on the film’s red carpet. “We both love England, and we’re both aviators. We both love flying.”
Several prominent celebrities, including Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, who also gave performances at the ceremony, attended the coronation. Perry, who dressed in gleaming gold, looked every bit the glittering spectacle of a coronation as she performed the classics “Roar” and “Firework” to round up the concert.
