Movie Stars Who Have Said They Want To Quit
We know an actor’s life looks quite glamorous and we think there is nothing wrong going on in their lives. But there have been some famous movie stars who had decided to quit this glamourous life for various reasons.
We are thankful that they decided to carry on otherwise we wouldn’t have had such amazing performances in Hollywood. If you want to uplift your mood for the weekend, this will certainly cheer you up!
1. Gal Gadot
Surprised? Well, Gal Gadot had told her husband that she wasn’t sure about acting and this happened just before she got the major and iconic role of Wonder Woman. In an interview with Access Hollywood back in 2020, she shed a light on the same. Here’s what she said:
“There’s so much rejection in this profession, and it came to a point where I was just like, ‘Is it really worth it?'”.We were in LA for a trip, and I was telling my husband, ‘Look, we’re here now, but we’re leaving in two weeks…I don’t know if we’ll ever come again. I don’t know if I want to pursue [acting].’ And then, during those two weeks, I had the Wonder Woman audition… Isn’t it crazy the way the world, the universe, works?”
We are glad you didn’t quit Gal! You can catch her freshly released film (on OTT) Death on the Nile on Hulu and on Disney+ in selected countries.
2. Cole Sprouse
Along with his twin, Cole rocked the shows The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and The Suite Life on Deck spinoff series. But then he took a break from acting and went to NYU to study Archaeology. He even worked in an archaeological lab and that’s when he was pushed to audition for Jughead Jones in Riverdale.
He revealed this incident on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2018 saying, “My manager begged me to come out for the pilot week, and I was doing photography and archaeology, and I said, ‘If I don’t get anything…I don’t think I’m gonna come back.’ And then, sure enough, I booked Riverdale, and it just sort of fell into place.”
3. Eric Stonestreet
FYI, Modern Family is not the same without him. Literally, no Modern Family fan hates Eric, his just fantastic! But everything wasn’t merry for him before Modern Family started. He opened up about his low times in an interview back in 2017 with Scott Carty. Here’s what he had to say:
“I actually had one of my biggest and lowest valleys about two months before I got the audition for Modern Family, I was really deciding, do I stay in it, because I have enough traction and … casting directors to know me and I’ve created enough of a career for myself that I could probably continue doing it, or do I split now and start Stonestreet Meats or whatever I wanted to do? I always wanted to be a concierge butcher. I didn’t know.”
That’s when Marshall Bell (actor) asked him to stick in and then he got cast in Modern Family. He added on saying, “I went from literally one of my lowest points of my career to winning an Emmy within a year.” Thank you Marshall for having his back!
4. Millie Bobby Brown
She has gained a lot of fame and roles after she rocked the performance of Eleven in Stranger Things. But she had considered quitting acting had she gotten that role. During an interview with Jimmy Fallon in 2020, she opened up about the same saying:
“I think I was just very disheartened by the rejection, which is something that I tell everyone, is like, this industry is…just full of rejection 24/7. I was auditioning for commercials for anything, really. I then auditioned for Game of Thrones, and I got a no for that. And then, that’s kind of when I was kind of like, oh, this is really difficult, and I guess I really wanted that role.”
And “Montauk” was her last go at Hollywood and then it was later renamed as we know “Stranger Things”. We are now waiting for the 4th season and it is Netflix’s one of the most successful shows ever.
5. Chris Hemsworth
In 2021, Chris spoke to Australian Men’s Health about his acting struggles during the early stages. He said, “I was about to quit. I got more and more anxious to the point where I couldn’t harness or use that energy. It was all to my detriment.”
He gave one final audition in 2008 and got the lead role of Curt in The Cabin in the Woods. And then he became Thor and we are thankful for him.
6. (Bonus) Robert Pattinson
The newest Batman in the town actually wanted to quit after he auditioned for Edward Cullen in Twilight. Robert was just sick of it and was ready to abandon acting just before he learned that he had got the lead role.
He told in an interview with “Today” in 2019 saying, “The audition was one of the worst auditions I did in my whole life. I remember calling my parents and saying, ‘I’m done, I can’t torture myself anymore.‘”
